Iranโs state-affiliated Tasnim News Agency said that Iranian forces launched drone strikes against United States naval vessels in the Gulf of Oman, in retaliation for an attack on an Iranian container ship, the Toska.
According to Tasnim, Tehran carried out the strikes after accusing โAmerican terroristsโ of targeting the Toska while it was en route from China to Iran. The report, which was also shared on X, did not provide details regarding the extent of damage to the vessel, the nature of the alleged attack, or any casualties. Furthermore, no photographic or video evidence was released to substantiate the claims.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the United States Navy declined immediate comment when contacted via email. As of publication, neither United States Central Command nor other US defence bodies have confirmed any strike or damage to American vessels in the region.
The Gulf of Oman, which connects the Arabian Sea to the Strait of Hormuz, remains a vital corridor for global energy shipments and has witnessed repeated tensions between Iran and Western forces in recent years. Past incidents, including attacks on commercial ships and vessel seizures since 2019, have heightened concerns over maritime security.
Analysts warn that any confirmed attack on US naval assets could significantly escalate tensions between Tehran and Washington, particularly following the US withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear agreement and the reimposition of sanctions in 2018.
