Geetu Mohandas-directed gangster drama maintains strong two-day total despite steep decline as mixed reviews weigh on theatrical momentum
MUMBAI: Yash-starrer Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups witnessed a sharp decline at the Indian box office on its second day as negative reviews and weak word of mouth appeared to affect ticket sales.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the Geetu Mohandas-directed film collected an estimated INR 37.65 crore net in India on Day 2, marking a 62.8% decline from its opening-day collection of approximately INR 101.10 crore.
Despite the steep fall, Toxic has accumulated around INR 138.75 crore net domestically during its first two days. Meanwhile, its reported worldwide collection has reached approximately INR 192 crore.
Occupancy Drops Following Blockbuster Opening
The film recorded an overall occupancy rate of 27.63% across India on its second day. Morning screenings registered 17.08%, while afternoon shows improved to 26.77%.
Evening occupancy stood at 25.62%. However, night screenings performed comparatively better, reaching 41.08%.
The significant Day 2 slowdown followed a strong opening that had initially placed Toxic within striking distance of other major box office performers.
However, mixed-to-negative audience reactions could now determine whether the film maintains momentum during its opening weekend.
Criticism Focuses on Violence and Storytelling
Meanwhile, several viewers and critics have criticised the movie’s action sequences, describing its violence as excessive. Others have questioned the execution of its gangster narrative and argued that its female characters received insufficient material.
Nevertheless, the film’s substantial opening-day business has helped maintain a strong cumulative total despite the second-day decline.
Toxic stars Yash alongside Kiara Advani and was written and filmed in Kannada and English.
Furthermore, producers released dubbed versions in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam to target audiences across major Indian markets.
Its performance over the coming days will determine whether Toxic can overcome negative word of mouth and sustain its theatrical run.
