Darakhshan Police Register Rape Case
Karachi police have arrested a man after a foreign woman accused him of sexually assaulting her at an apartment in the Defence Housing Authority.
South Deputy Inspector General of Police Syed Asad Raza confirmed the arrest on Saturday. He said the suspect was taken into custody one day after the woman filed a formal complaint with Darakhshan police.
The first information report was registered on Friday, July 17, only hours after the alleged incident. Police included Section 376 of the Pakistan Penal Code, which deals with the offence and punishment of rape.
The complainant is a 49-year-old permanent resident of the United States. According to police, she works as a medical assistant in the cardiology field.
Police said she arrived in Pakistan on November 13, 2025. She had reportedly been living in Karachi’s DHA Phase VI since April 2026.
The suspect’s identity was not immediately disclosed in the initial police statement. Investigators are questioning him and examining evidence connected to the woman’s allegations.
The registration of an FIR and the suspect’s arrest do not establish guilt. The allegations will be examined during the investigation and any subsequent court proceedings.
Complainant Says Suspect Entered Her Apartment
According to the FIR, the woman said the suspect was taking her home at around 4am on July 17.
She reportedly agreed that he could enter her apartment for a drink. The complainant alleged that she later regained awareness in her bedroom and found the man sexually assaulting her.
She told police that she initially needed time to understand what was happening. After becoming fully alert, she resisted, screamed and struck the suspect.
The man then allegedly left the apartment and escaped on a motorcycle.
The complainant said she attempted to follow him but was unable to stop him. Her screams attracted the attention of people living nearby.
A woman and her two daughters reportedly came to assist her. They provided her with clothing and helped her return to the apartment.
The complainant further alleged that the suspect later came back to retrieve a mobile phone he had left behind. She said he entered without knocking.
She confronted him again, but he allegedly escaped for a second time.
Police were subsequently contacted, and the complainant was taken to Darakhshan Police Station, where officers recorded her account and registered the FIR.
Medical Examination and DNA Testing Conducted
Darakhshan police later took the complainant for a medical examination.
Police Surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed confirmed that the 49-year-old woman was brought for examination on Friday after reporting the alleged assault.
Medical personnel collected samples for serological testing and DNA analysis. These samples may help investigators determine whether forensic evidence supports the allegations contained in the FIR.
The results were not immediately available. Such examinations can require laboratory processing before a final report is submitted to investigators.
Police may also examine the suspect and collect comparison samples in accordance with legal procedures.
Investigators are expected to review building surveillance footage, mobile phone records, entry information and statements from neighbours who came to the woman’s assistance.
They may also examine communication between the complainant and suspect before the alleged incident.
The authorities have not disclosed whether any security cameras captured the suspect entering or leaving the residential area.
Police Continue Investigation After Arrest
DIG Raza said further investigation was underway following the suspect’s arrest.
Investigators will attempt to verify the sequence of events described in the complaint. They will also determine how the complainant and suspect met and what happened before they reached the DHA apartment.
The suspect may be presented before a court so police can request custody for further questioning. The court will decide the next legal steps based on the available evidence and investigation record.
Authorities have not announced whether any additional suspects are being investigated.
The case has drawn attention because it involves a foreign resident living in one of Karachi’s most prominent residential areas.
Police are expected to provide additional information after receiving forensic reports and completing their initial questioning of the suspect.
The complainant’s identity has not been publicly disclosed, in accordance with the need to protect survivors of alleged sexual violence.
All allegations remain subject to investigation and judicial examination. The accused is legally presumed innocent unless convicted by a court.
