A stage dancer has alleged that she was assaulted during a live theatre performance in Sheikhupura after unidentified men entered the performance area and interrupted the ongoing show.
According to the complaint, the attackers allegedly slapped the performer in front of the audience, forcing organizers to stop the drama. The incident has sparked concerns over the safety of performers at public theatre venues.
Police have registered a case, while the investigation into the incident continues.
Victim Claims Assault Followed Rejection of Alleged Advances
According to stage dancer Shama Naz, the incident occurred after she refused to comply with demands allegedly made by a man identified as Raja Zain.
She claimed the accused had repeatedly sought an illicit relationship with her. However, she rejected those advances. She alleged that the assault took place after she refused his demands.
Naz further stated that she and her family depend on stage performances as their primary source of income. Therefore, she said such incidents directly threaten both her livelihood and personal safety.
She also alleged that individuals associated with the accused repeatedly harass her during stage performances whenever they choose.
Furthermore, she claimed that Raja Zain would be responsible if any harm comes to her or her family.
Theatre Security Faces Serious Questions
According to the complainant, the alleged assault occurred in the presence of theatre management and security personnel.
However, she accused the venue’s security staff of failing to stop the attackers despite being present throughout the incident.
Meanwhile, a video of the alleged assault has surfaced on social media. The footage has intensified concerns about security arrangements and crowd control inside theatre premises.
Police Register Case as Investigation Continues
Following the complaint, Sheikhupura Police Station A Division registered a case against the main accused.
However, according to the available information, police have not yet arrested the suspects.
Authorities continue investigating the allegations and are expected to proceed according to the evidence collected during the inquiry.
Family Demands Justice and Stronger Security
Shama Naz and her family also criticized the administration of the Art Council, claiming the management appeared unable to protect performers from alleged misconduct.
They urged the relevant authorities to strengthen security arrangements inside theatres and ensure accountability for those responsible.
In her appeal, Shama Naz requested Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Uzma Bukhari, the Inspector General of Punjab Police, the DPO Sheikhupura, and Additional IG CCD Sohail Zafar Chatha to take notice of the incident and ensure legal action against Raja Zain and his alleged associates.
The case has once again highlighted growing concerns about the safety of performers during public stage shows and the importance of effective security measures at entertainment venues.
