Race for Green and Maroon Caps Heats Up in HBL PSL X

ISLAMABAD: As the 2025 HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) enters its crucial phase, the race for the tournament’s top individual honors — the Hanif Mohammad and Fazal Mahmood awards — is heating up. Introduced during the league’s second season, the Hanif Mohammad Award (Green Cap) is awarded to the leading run-scorer, while the Fazal Mahmood Award (Maroon Cap) recognizes the top wicket-taker. Players don these caps throughout the tournament and retain them if they finish at the top by the season’s end.

Currently, Islamabad United’s Sahibzada Farhan leads the run-scoring charts with 214 runs, making him the holder of the Green Cap. Farhan has been instrumental at the top of the order, delivering consistent performances and notching a century earlier in the tournament. He is being closely followed by James Vince of Karachi Kings with 186 runs, and Peshawar Zalmi’s Mohammad Haris with 173. Mohammad Rizwan (158) and Colin Munro (151) round out the top five in the batting standings.

In the bowling department, Jason Holder, also from Islamabad United, sits at the top with 11 wickets, earning him the Maroon Cap. His pace and consistency have been crucial for United, who recently broke the record for the longest winning streak in PSL history. Karachi Kings’ Hasan Ali is right on his heels with 10 wickets, while Shadab Khan (Islamabad United) and Abbas Afridi (Karachi Kings) each have eight. Several others are tied at seven wickets, making the race for top bowler an intense one.

The Imtiaz Ahmed Award, given to the tournament’s best wicket-keeper, also remains up for grabs, with final decisions hinging on performances in the remaining matches. As the playoff race intensifies, these individual battles are adding another layer of excitement to an already action-packed PSL season.
