The Punjab Transport Department has finalized the feasibility study for Lahore’s Yellow Line Electric Transit Project, a major step toward providing affordable and environmentally friendly public transport in the provincial capital.
Initiated under the direction of the Chief Minister of Punjab, the Yellow Line is planned to run across a 24-kilometer route from Thokar Niaz Baig to Harbanspura. The project is expected to serve approximately 130,000 commuters daily, helping to ease traffic congestion and improve access to efficient transportation across the city.
The project’s estimated cost stands at PKR 80 billion, with a proposed implementation timeline extending from September 2025 to June 2026. The plan has been submitted to the Chief Minister’s Secretariat for final approval.
This initiative is part of a larger vision to create an integrated urban rail network in Lahore. Parallel efforts are ongoing on the Blue Line and Purple Line transit systems, all aimed at reducing carbon emissions, curbing traffic load, and improving daily commuting options.
The Yellow Line will feature 20 electric train sets, which are planned to be imported from China, pending formal approvals from the Punjab Cabinet and the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC).
