PCB Appoints Aaqib Javed as Head Coach Amid Coaching Shakeup Ahead of Zimbabwe Series

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has named Aaqib Javed as the new head coach of the national cricket team ahead of an upcoming series against Zimbabwe, featuring three ODIs and three T20Is.

Javed’s appointment is attributed to his experience coaching the Lahore Qalandars’ development squad during their Zimbabwe tour and his prior role as Pakistan’s bowling coach.

This change follows Gary Kirsten’s resignation as head coach before the Australia tour. Jason Gillespie, the red-ball head coach, temporarily assumed responsibilities for the white-ball team.

Reports indicate Kirsten’s departure was due to disputes with the PCB and selector Aqib Javed, particularly over Kirsten’s inability to hire his preferred support staff.

Additionally, former Test player Mohammad Yousuf has stepped down from his coaching role at the National Cricket Academy, signaling more changes within the PCB. Pakistan will face Zimbabwe from November 24 to December 5, followed by a tour of South Africa from December 10 to January 7, featuring T20Is, ODIs, and Tests.
