Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced on Saturday that the national women’s cricket team will not travel to India for the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, which is scheduled to take place later this year.
Naqvi made the statement while speaking to the media at the Lahore City Cricket Association (LCCA) Ground, shortly after Pakistan’s women’s team wrapped up their ICC World Cup qualifier campaign with an unbeaten record, securing a seven-wicket win over Bangladesh in their final match.
The PCB chief visited the ground to personally commend the players for their outstanding performance and teamwork throughout the tournament.
Addressing reporters, Naqvi stated that Pakistan’s decision not to participate in the tournament on Indian soil aligns with the previously agreed-upon “Fusion Formula,” which was also applied during the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy planning earlier this year.
“As per the Fusion Formula, Pakistan will not send its women’s team to India for the World Cup. This decision has already been finalised,” he asserted.
When asked about the possibility of neutral venues for Pakistan’s fixtures, Naqvi responded that the responsibility lies with the tournament host, but reiterated that the team will not travel to India under any circumstances.
Pakistan secured their place in the upcoming World Cup after a dominant 87-run victory over Thailand, followed by today’s impressive win against Bangladesh.
Praising the unity and discipline of the Fatima Sana-led squad, Naqvi said their success was the result of cohesion and teamwork. “When a team plays with unity and purpose, such results follow. They truly deserve to be rewarded for their efforts,” he added.
