PSL 9: Iftikhar Ahmed Fined for Using ‘Inappropriate Language’ Against Quetta Gladiators

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced on Wednesday that Multan Sultans’ player Iftikhar Ahmed has been fined 5% of his match fee due to his use of inappropriate language towards a batter following their dismissal. This violation was found to be in breach of Article 2.5 of the HBL PSL Code of Conduct during Multan Sultans’ match against Quetta Gladiators at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi.

The incident occurred in the third over of Quetta Gladiators’ batting innings, when Iftikhar Ahmed, the all-rounder for Multan Sultans, directed inappropriate language towards the batter who had been dismissed. Following an investigation by the on-field umpires Rashid Riaz and Richard Illingworth, Ahmed pleaded guilty to the charge.

In accordance with the disciplinary process, match referee Ali Naqvi proposed sanctions which Ahmed accepted. Article 2.5 of the HBL PSL Code of Conduct specifically addresses the use of language, actions, or gestures that could disparage or provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon their dismissal during a match.

The imposition of the fine highlights the PCB’s commitment to maintaining the integrity and sportsmanship of the game. Such disciplinary actions serve to reinforce the standards of conduct expected from players, ensuring a respectful and professional environment on the field.

The incident underscores the importance of upholding the principles of fair play and respect in cricket. Players are reminded of their responsibility to conduct themselves appropriately and uphold the spirit of the game at all times.

Moving forward, it is hoped that all players will adhere to the highest standards of sportsmanship, setting a positive example for fans and aspiring cricketers alike. By upholding these values, the cricketing community can continue to enjoy the game while fostering a culture of mutual respect and integrity.
