The coastal city of Gwadar has been selected to host the much-anticipated HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) Player Draft on January 11, 2025, according to an official announcement from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
This decision marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to extend the reach of Pakistan’s premier cricket event across the country, with Gwadar chosen as the venue for the draft ceremony.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi emphasized the importance of hosting the event in Gwadar, stating that it would help showcase the cultural and economic significance of the city. “Hosting the HBL PSL Player Draft in Gwadar aims to highlight the city’s strategic importance and stunning coastline, while also promoting the region’s cultural vibrancy,” he said. “Gwadar stands at the heart of Pakistan’s economic future, and this initiative is a step towards connecting the sport of cricket with the region’s growing significance.”
PCB Chief Operating Officer Salman Naseer echoed these sentiments, adding, “This initiative aligns with our vision of taking the PSL to every corner of Pakistan. By hosting the Player Draft in Gwadar, we are not only celebrating the sport of cricket but also presenting the beauty and potential of our nation to the world.”
He further stated that the decision to bring the PSL to Gwadar was aimed at inspiring young cricketers, particularly in Balochistan, to pursue the sport professionally.
The Player Draft will be a key event leading up to the 10th edition of the PSL, and its location in Gwadar is symbolic of the PCB’s commitment to fostering talent across Pakistan.
The city, known for its coastal beauty and economic significance, is expected to provide an ideal setting for the ceremony.
The official start time for the event will be announced closer to the date. Meanwhile, the announcement regarding player relegation and retention is expected by the end of December.
The move to host the draft in Gwadar is seen as part of the broader efforts to make the PSL a truly national event, extending its influence and inspiration to all parts of the country.
The PCB looks forward to welcoming franchises, stakeholders, and cricket fans to the beautiful city of Gwadar as it continues to push the boundaries of what the PSL represents.
