Beloved Chef Zakir Hussain Passes Away at 58, Leaving a Culinary Legacy Behind

Renowned Pakistani chef Zakir Hussain, celebrated for his culinary expertise and captivating television presence, passed away at the age of 58 after a prolonged battle with kidney disease.

According to family sources, Chef Zakir breathed his last at 8 PM on Sunday night. He had been receiving treatment in the United States, where doctors had exhausted all options. About a month ago, he returned to Pakistan to spend his remaining days with family and loved ones.

His funeral prayers will be held on Tuesday after Asr at Jamia Rashidia, Malir Saudabad, followed by burial at the Saudabad cemetery.

A Culinary Icon Remembered

Born on February 16, 1967, Zakir Hussain—lovingly known to many as Zakir Qureshi—became a household name through his live cooking shows, which aired on several popular Pakistani television channels. His warm demeanor, command over flavors, and ability to make complex dishes accessible endeared him to home cooks across Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, and beyond.

Mastering both Pakistani and international cuisines, Chef Zakir taught thousands of recipes, mentoring a generation of food enthusiasts and establishing himself as a pioneer in culinary broadcasting.

News of his passing has prompted an outpouring of grief across social media, with fans, fellow chefs, and public figures paying tribute to his immense contribution to the culinary world. Chef Samia was among the first to confirm the sad news, sparking a wave of condolences and memories shared by admirers from around the globe.

Chef Zakir will be remembered not only for his vast knowledge of food but also for his humility, charisma, and dedication to promoting Pakistani cuisine on an international stage. His legacy lives on in the countless kitchens he inspired and the generations he educated through his work.
