LAHORE: Ijaz Butt, a former Test cricketer and former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman, passed away in Lahore at the age of 85. As a former Test wicket-keeper/batsman, Ijaz Butt had a notable cricket career, representing Pakistan in eight Test matches. His contributions to Pakistan cricket extended beyond his playing days, as he served as the PCB chief from 2008 to 2011. The whole cricketing community mourns his death.
The Pakistan cricket team achieved a significant milestone under his leadership by winning the ICC T20 World Cup in 2009. The PCB expressed its sadness over his death and offered heartfelt condolences to his friends and family.
In a statement, Zaka Ashraf, the PCB Management Committee Chairperson, expressed his personal connection with Ijaz Butt. He also conveyed the immense respect he had for him. Ashraf extended his deepest condolences to Butt’s family and friends. He assured them that Ijaz Butt’s contributions to Pakistan cricket would always be remembered.
Cricketer Imamul Haq also expressed his sadness upon learning about Butt’s demise. He reflected on the impact Butt had on the cricketing community and the respect he garnered from fellow players and cricket enthusiasts.
Sports journalist Mirza Iqbal Baig offered his prayers for Ijaz Butt upon hearing the news of his passing. Baig also mentioned that Butt had been dealing with illness for the past few years.
