ISLAMABAD: Renowned Pakistani cricketer Babar Azam has humbly requested his fans to stop calling him “King Shing.”
Babar’s struggles with form continued on Wednesday when South Africa’s Wiaan Mulder trapped him lbw for 23 during Pakistan’s chase of a daunting 353-run target. Speaking informally after the match, Babar said, “Pehli baat toh yeh hai, ‘king king’ bolna zara kam karein. Main koi king nahin hoon. Ab mere liye naye role hain.”
He elaborated further, saying, “I always strive to give my best performance. When you build an innings, you gradually understand the conditions better.”
Reflecting on his mindset, Babar added, “I think about the good innings I have played and try to move forward from tough phases. No matter how well I’ve performed in the past, every match presents a new challenge. The focus must remain on the present, not the past.”
Babar also emphasized the importance of planning and adaptability, stating, “I always aim to plan positively for the days ahead. The opposition comes prepared with their own strategies. Winning matches boosts confidence, and we work on identifying our strengths and weaknesses to improve.”
Despite Babar’s challenges, Pakistan delivered an extraordinary performance against South Africa at the National Stadium Karachi. Captain Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha smashed brilliant centuries, leading Pakistan to a six-wicket victory and securing a spot in the tri-nation series final.
Their record-breaking fourth-wicket partnership helped Pakistan successfully chase the 353-run target with six balls to spare, a memorable feat that electrified the home crowd.
