The Sindh government has made a major decision to clean up its public school system. Officials plan to dismiss more than 10,000 employees of the School Education Department.
This drastic action comes after authorities discovered widespread duty evasion across the province. Consequently, the government has officially declared these individuals as “ghost employees.”
Wide Range of Staff Facing Dismissal
The sweep covers many different positions within the education sector. These ghost employees include non-teaching staff like naib qasids, watchmen, gardeners, and lab attendants.
Additionally, the list includes teaching staff. Specifically, primary school teachers and junior elementary school teachers are facing termination.
Ignored Warning Notices Lead to Direct Action
This major decision was not made overnight. The School Education Department previously issued formal show-cause notices to the accused staff.
However, the employees failed to respond. They could not provide any valid explanation for their prolonged absences. Because they failed to defend themselves, the department decided to move forward with their termination.
Hyderabad Division Uncovers the Highest Count
The highest number of ghost employees was found in the Hyderabad Division. Shockingly, the School Education Department identified more than 2,000 absconding ghost workers in this region alone.
However, the issue is not limited to Hyderabad. Thousands of ghost employees were also uncovered across the remaining five divisions of Sindh. These divisions include Karachi, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur, Larkana, and Shaheed Benazirabad.
All identified ghost employees will be officially dismissed from their jobs starting this August. This move aims to restore accountability and improve the quality of education for students across the province.
