An associate professor has approached the Sindh High Court against alleged illegal appointments at Karachi University. The petition challenges recruitments in the Marine Biology Research Center. The court heard the matter on Friday before adjourning proceedings.
Petitioner Challenges Recruitment Process
During the hearing, petitioner Dr Umar Rashid appeared before the court. However, the defence counsel was absent. Consequently, the Sindh High Court adjourned the hearing for two weeks.
The petitioner alleged that Karachi University recruited four associate professors against established rules. He also claimed the appointments violated the applicable recruitment procedure.
Furthermore, Dr Rashid argued that authorities denied his promotion despite a court order. He told the court that former Chief Justice Sajjad Shah had ordered his promotion in 2016.
Promotion And HEC Concerns Raised
According to the petitioner, authorities have not implemented the promotion order after 11 years. He also claimed the current vice chancellor appointed four associate professors before leaving office.
Moreover, Dr Rashid informed the court that the Higher Education Commission had twice prohibited the recruitments. He further stated that the HEC cancelled the advertisement issued for the appointments.
The court will resume hearing the petition after two weeks. Further proceedings are expected once the respondents present their arguments before the bench.
