Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter, announced on December 9 that 1.5 billion inactive accounts would be deleted to make room for new ones.
Musk Tweeted: “Twitter will soon start freeing the space of 1.5 billion accounts”
He added to the thread, “These are obvious account deletions with no tweets & no log-in for years.”
The billionaire has previously expressed his displeasure with bots. Musk had previously postponed the $44 billion Twitter acquisition due to worries about bots.
In response to a Twitter user who questioned Musk earlier in the day about his “position on DMs and user privacy rights,” Musk also stated that DMs should be encrypted.
“DMs should be encrypted, so that it is impossible for anyone at Twitter to see the public’s DMs, just as is the case with Signal or iMessage,” Elon Musk Tweeted.
