WhatsApp plans new Year celebrations with festive update

New Year celebrations may still be weeks away, but WhatsApp is already gearing up for the festive season with a new feature set to debut in an upcoming update.

The Meta-owned instant messaging platform is testing animated confetti effects for specific emoji reactions, available to some beta testers via the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.24.17 update on the Google Play Store.

According to WABetaInfo, the update introduces vibrant animations when users react to messages with select festive-themed emojis. Emojis like the Party Popper, Partying Face, and Confetti Ball will now trigger lively animations featuring colourful confetti bursts, enhancing the celebratory atmosphere as the New Year approaches.

These joyful animations add a playful touch to interactions, aligning with the season’s celebratory spirit. Emojis symbolizing festivity and happiness are expected to be widely used during this time, making this feature a timely addition to WhatsApp’s arsenal.

Currently, this feature is available only to selected beta testers, but a broader rollout is anticipated soon—just in time to elevate messaging during the New Year celebrations.
