Saudi Arabia’s newly appointed ambassador to Pakistan, Dr Rajeh bin Tami Al-Baqami, has arrived in Islamabad. His arrival marks the start of his diplomatic assignment in Pakistan.
Dr Al-Baqami reached Islamabad on Saturday morning and was received by Khushan Saeed, Assistant Director (Protocol) at Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Saudi Chargé d’Affaires Naif bin Hamoud bin Malafekh and other embassy officials were present at the airport to welcome the new envoy.
Al-Baqami Set to Take Charge
Dr Al-Baqami is expected to assume charge of his office on Monday. He was appointed Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to Pakistan in July 2026.
He later took the oath of office before Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman. The oath-taking ceremony took place in Jeddah on behalf of King Salman.
His appointment followed the departure of Nawaf bin Said Al-Malki, who previously served as Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to Pakistan.
A Military Background Behind the Diplomatic Role
Before entering his diplomatic assignment, Dr Al-Baqami served as a major general in the Saudi armed forces. He retired from military service before taking up his new diplomatic role.
His background therefore combines military experience with his new responsibilities as Saudi Arabia’s representative in Pakistan.
Dr Al-Baqami’s appointment adds a new figure to the longstanding diplomatic relationship between Islamabad and Riyadh.
Pakistan-Saudi Arabia Ties
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia maintain relations spanning political, economic and defence cooperation. Therefore, the new ambassador will take charge as the two countries continue their engagement across several areas.
His arrival in Islamabad now begins the next phase of his assignment. He is expected to formally take charge of the embassy after completing the required diplomatic procedures.
With his arrival, attention will now turn to the start of his official activities as Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to Pakistan.
