Saudi Arabia has appointed Dr. Rajeh Al-Baqami as its new ambassador to Pakistan, according to sources. He will replace Nawaf bin Saeed Ahmed Al-Maliki as the Kingdom’s envoy.
Sources said Dr. Al-Baqami was among nine newly appointed Saudi ambassadors. Earlier this week, they took the oath of office before Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
Veteran Military Officer Takes Diplomatic Role
According to sources, Dr. Al-Baqami is a retired Major General. He served in the Saudi Armed Forces before joining the country’s diplomatic service.
Furthermore, he is regarded as a senior Saudi diplomat with extensive defence and security experience. Officials believe this background will support stronger bilateral cooperation.
His appointment comes as Pakistan and Saudi Arabia continue expanding ties. Both countries have increased collaboration across economic, strategic, and defence sectors.
Pakistan, Saudi Arabia Deepen Bilateral Cooperation
Sources said Dr. Al-Baqami’s defence expertise is expected to strengthen existing security cooperation. Moreover, both countries continue working closely on regional and strategic matters.
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have maintained long-standing diplomatic and defence relations. Consequently, officials expect the new ambassador to further enhance bilateral engagement.
The appointment reflects the importance both countries place on expanding cooperation. Further diplomatic engagements are expected following his assumption of office.
