New Tennis Centre to Feature 15,000-Seat Court
Saudi Arabia has unveiled plans for a major new national tennis centre in Qiddiya City.
The project will feature a Wimbledon-inspired design.
It will include a 15,000-seat centre court.
The court will also have a retractable roof for climate control.
The facility is being developed by Qiddiya Investment Company near Riyadh.
Facility Includes 30 Courts for Players
The tennis centre will include 28 hard courts and two clay courts.
All courts will use non-grass surfaces.
Images released by developers show green and purple court designs.
The colours are similar to Wimbledonโs famous visual style.
The venue will also include landscaped areas and plant-covered exterior structures.
The centre has been designed by global architecture firm Populous.
The firm also worked on Wimbledonโs Centre Court roof.
Saudi Arabia Targets Global Tennis Events
Officials say the venue will become a major tennis hub in the region.
It could also host top international tournaments in the future.
Saudi sports officials said the project supports the countryโs wider sports development strategy.
The plan also aims to promote local tennis talent.
ATP chief executive Eno Polo said the centre could help grow tennis participation in the region.
The development is part of Qiddiya Cityโs wider entertainment and sports vision.
Qiddiya City is located around 30 miles from Riyadh.
