ISLAMABAD: Police in Islamabad have arrested six suspects allegedly involved in a robbery at the residence of the former Bahawalpur royal family in the upscale F-8/3 sector.
According to police, the incident took place at the residence of Prince Bahawal Abbas Khan Abbasi, son of Nawab Salahuddin Abbasi. The suspects allegedly stole several rare and historically significant items from the property.
The stolen valuables reportedly included a silver throne-like chair, silver stairs, silver bowls, gold plates and various antique sculptures. Police also said the thieves took gold items bearing the royal emblem of the former State of Bahawalpur, along with a historic silver frame, antique firearms and swords.
Margalla Police Station Station House Officer Muhammad Imran confirmed that the main domestic worker allegedly involved in the theft had been arrested. Investigators have started questioning the suspect to determine how the robbery was planned and carried out.
Police have not yet confirmed whether all the stolen artefacts and valuables have been recovered.
The robbery comes amid a reported rise in theft and robbery incidents across Islamabad. Police said eight separate cases were reported during the week, involving cash, valuables and historical items worth more than Rs34 million.
Law-enforcement agencies have intensified searches, vehicle checks and surveillance operations across the capital. Police are also conducting raids at different locations to arrest other suspects linked to the case.
