Authorities in Rawalpindi have taken steps to acquire 25 acres of private land to accelerate the remaining work on the Daducha Dam Water Supply Project.
The land will be used to build a water treatment plant, pumping station and related distribution infrastructure. Authorities have already imposed Section 4 on the identified site near Kak Pul and started the valuation process.
The development comes as construction of Daducha Dam has reached 94% completion. Once the broader water supply project becomes operational, it is expected to provide 35 million gallons of water daily to Rawalpindi’s city and cantonment areas.
25 Acres Identified Near Kak Pul
The authorities have identified 25 acres of privately owned land near Kak Pul for several components of the project.
The proposed site will accommodate the water treatment plant, water supply distribution system and pumping facilities. Meanwhile, WASA has formally approached the District Price Assessment Committee to determine the value of the land.
Section 4 has already been imposed on the required area. The process will allow authorities to proceed with the acquisition while determining compensation for the private landowners.
Daducha Dam Construction Nears Completion
The Daducha Dam itself is being constructed by the Punjab Irrigation Department. According to the latest project update, construction has reached 94%.
The dam forms the main source of the planned water supply system. Therefore, completing the remaining infrastructure remains essential before water can reach consumers in the city and cantonment areas.
The overall project is expected to be completed by 2029.
Rs36 Billion Water Supply Infrastructure
The wider water supply project carries an estimated cost of Rs36 billion. The expenditure covers the water supply network, treatment plant, pumping station, distribution system and transmission infrastructure.
The Provincial Development Working Party has approved the PC-I for the 28-kilometre transmission line, water treatment plant and water distribution system.
The approval clears an important stage for developing the infrastructure required to transport and distribute water from the dam.
City and Cantonment to Share Project Cost
Authorities have also decided that the project cost will be shared equally between the city and cantonment areas.
Under the planned system, 35 million gallons of water per day will be supplied equally to both areas. The arrangement is expected to strengthen water availability once the project becomes operational.
Moreover, the treatment and distribution infrastructure will help connect the dam’s water supply with the areas that will receive it.
Project Aims to Improve Water Supply
The Daducha Dam project is expected to become an important addition to Rawalpindi’s water supply infrastructure. However, completing the dam alone will not be enough to deliver water to consumers.
The treatment plant, pumping facilities and 28-kilometre transmission line will also need to be completed. Therefore, acquiring the required land has become an important step in moving the remaining work forward.
With dam construction already nearing completion, authorities are now focusing on the supporting infrastructure needed to make the water supply system operational.
If the project remains on schedule, the Daducha Dam Water Supply Project could begin delivering 35 million gallons of water daily by 2029. The acquisition of land near Kak Pul is therefore expected to support the next phase of development and help authorities complete the remaining components of the Rs36 billion project.
