The Punjab government has transferred two district police officers following concerns over their performance, particularly in handling crimes against women and children.
Inspector General of Police Punjab Abdul Kareem issued the transfer orders on Monday. The move followed a performance review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz around two weeks earlier.
During the meeting, the chief minister expressed displeasure with the performance of 15 DPOs and four regional police officers.
Chakwal and Bhakkar DPOs Replaced
The transferred officers include Chakwal DPO Kashif Zulfiqar and Bhakkar DPO Shahzad Rafique Awan.
Authorities directed Zulfiqar to report to the Central Police Office for further orders. Meanwhile, Rafique Awan has been posted as SP Security Special Branch in Lahore.
Muhammad Asim will replace Zulfiqar in Chakwal, while Shahid Ahmad Khan will take charge in Bhakkar.
Senior Police Officers Also Reshuffled
The Punjab government has also announced changes involving three senior police officers.
Additional IG South Punjab Kamran Khan has been transferred to the Punjab Highways Patrol against a vacant position. Shahzada Sultan, previously serving as Additional IG Investigation Punjab, will replace him.
Furthermore, Additional IG Khurram Ali Shah has been appointed Additional IG Investigation after awaiting a new posting.
Police Chief to Continue Performance Reviews
An official familiar with the developments said the two DPOs had received additional time to improve their performance. The police chief had directed them to meet targets related to crimes against women and children within approximately two weeks. He also planned weekly performance reviews to assess district police officers.
Another review meeting is expected in the coming days. These assessments could lead to further administrative changes within Punjab Police.
