The Punjab Transport Department has introduced a dedicated women-only bus service on Lahore’s Metro Bus network. The initiative aims to improve passenger safety, reduce overcrowding, and provide female commuters with a more secure travel experience.
Under the new arrangement, the department has allocated five buses exclusively for women on the Lahore Metro Bus Service. The move reflects the provincial government’s efforts to improve public transport facilities for female passengers.
Five Dedicated Buses Added for Women
According to the Transport and Mass Transit Department, five special buses have been reserved exclusively for women using the Metro Bus Service.
The newly allocated buses are expected to offer greater comfort during peak travel hours. Moreover, they will help reduce congestion inside existing Metro buses.
The initiative also seeks to create a safer environment for women who rely on public transportation for daily travel.
Government Aims to Improve Women’s Safety
Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan said the additional buses have been introduced to protect women from harassment during crowded periods.
He explained that the initiative is designed to provide female commuters with safer and more comfortable transportation across the city.
Furthermore, he said the decision follows the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
According to the minister, the Speedo buses have immediately been incorporated into the Metro Bus fleet to support the new service.
Permanent Women-Only Metro Buses Planned
Bilal Akbar Khan also announced that the government plans to purchase new Metro buses in the near future.
Once the new buses arrive, they will be permanently allocated for women instead of using the current Speedo buses.
The temporary arrangement allows the service to begin immediately while the government prepares for a long-term solution.
More Measures Expected for Female Commuters
The transport minister said ensuring safe travel for women remains one of the Punjab Chief Minister’s top priorities.
He added that the government will continue introducing additional measures to further improve safety and convenience for female passengers using public transport.
The launch of women-only buses marks another step toward creating a more secure commuting environment. At the same time, it aims to encourage greater confidence among women who depend on Lahore’s Metro Bus Service for everyday travel.
