In a move aimed at giving motorists more flexibility, the Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department Punjab has announced five new vehicle registration number series for cars. The department plans to roll out these options next month, allowing vehicle owners to select numbers that better match their personal preferences.
Growing demand for personalized number plates
In recent years, there has been increasing attention paid to personalized and fancy car number plates, particularly in big cities. To satisfy people’s demands, the administration decided to add new series of car plates. On the other hand, customers interested in obtaining a special license plate can do so by participating in an e-auction.
Officials are convinced that the new series will take the strain off the currently available numbers, while at the same time providing motorists with additional choices. In addition, it will make the choice of a number easier for buyers.
Relaxation in number plate rules
The second important development in this regard took place in the month of February, 2026 when the department instructed the Punjab Traffic Police not to impose any fines on the citizens making use of number plates that have been privately manufactured, as long as such number plates conform to the authorized design of Punjab province.
In addition to this, it needs to be stated that the department does not manufacture the number plates in any centralized manner and also, no fees or costs are charged to the citizens when making use of number plates issued by the government.
This shows that the department has been making efforts to modernize its vehicle number plates issuing procedures.
