Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved strict penalties for people dumping animal waste and offal in public places during Eid-ul-Azha.
Under the new directive, violators will face a Rs50,000 fine for disposing of sacrificial waste in streets, residential areas, and prohibited locations.
The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by the chief minister in Lahore.
The move aims to maintain cleanliness across Punjab during Eid celebrations. Authorities also plan to strengthen sanitation operations in all major cities.
Public Awareness Campaign to Be Launched
Maryam Nawaz directed officials to begin a province-wide awareness campaign before Eid-ul-Azha.
The campaign will encourage citizens to dispose of animal waste responsibly. It will also educate the public about designated collection points and sanitation procedures.
In addition, authorities have been instructed to monitor drains, canals, and public spaces closely during the Eid holidays.
The chief minister stressed that cleanliness should remain a top priority throughout the province.
Vigilance Squads and Monitoring Teams Activated
Officials informed the meeting that special vigilance squads have already been formed.
These teams will monitor illegal dumping activities and ensure quick action against violations.
Authorities will also conduct regular inspections in residential areas and commercial centres. As a result, the government hopes to prevent sanitation problems during Eid-ul-Azha.
The chief minister further instructed departments to ensure cleanliness in railway colonies, cantonment areas, and private housing societies.
Massive Cleanliness Operation Across Punjab
Punjab is preparing for one of its largest Eid sanitation drives in recent years.
According to officials, more than 176,000 sanitation workers will participate in the operation. Additionally, over 8,000 temporary workers will support the campaign.
Authorities plan to establish 3,800 primary collection centres and 3,100 dumping sites across the province.
Furthermore, 4,500 special camps have been set up under the โSuthra Punjabโ campaign.
To strengthen operations, the government will also arrange loader rickshaws, mini dumpers, tractor-trolleys, and pickup vehicles.
Special Arrangements for Markets and Mosques
The Punjab government has announced special cleanliness measures for 2,687 major commercial markets.
Biodegradable shopping bags will also be distributed for proper disposal of offal and animal remains.
Meanwhile, rose water will be sprayed at Eid prayer gatherings and mosques to improve the environment during religious events.
Officials believe these steps will help maintain hygiene and improve public convenience during Eid celebrations.
Maryam Nawaz Warns Against Negligence
During the meeting, Maryam Nawaz said all government departments would function as โone unitโ during the Eid operation.
She emphasized that strong performance would receive appreciation. However, negligence would lead to accountability.
The chief minister urged officials to ensure timely waste collection and rapid response across Punjab.
The government hopes the strict measures will help create a cleaner and safer environment during Eid-ul-Azha celebrations.
