ISLAMABAD: To tighten law and order in the capital city of Pakistan ahead of the PTI’s Islamabad march, the government has demanded more than 23,000 policemen from three provinces _ Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan.
The federal government has requested 23,500 police personnel from Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan to strengthen security and maintain law and order in Islamabad.
According to sources, Punjab will provide 15,000 personnel, while Sindh will send 8,000 and Balochistan will contribute 500 officers.
The federal government directed the provinces to ensure that all requested personnel reach Islamabad by September 20.
Authorities have also shared the communication with provincial governments, federal security bodies and intelligence agencies.
Security arrangements tightened in Islamabad
The move follows growing security concerns in the capital amid increased political activity and the possibility of large-scale protests.
Officials have also arranged more than 1,000 shipping containers for security measures across Islamabad, according to reports.
Authorities are preparing additional resources as political tensions continue to place pressure on the capital’s security apparatus.
The latest requisition comes amid heightened tensions involving the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, which has announced plans for a march towards Islamabad on September 27.
Officials are expected to deploy the additional personnel at sensitive locations and key routes if the political situation intensifies.
Punjab imposes temporary gathering restrictions
Meanwhile, the Punjab government has separately imposed a temporary ban on public gatherings across the province until September 17.
The restriction aims to prevent disruptions and maintain public order amid the prevailing political tensions.
The federal government’s decision to seek additional police personnel indicates heightened preparations for possible security challenges in Islamabad.
Furthermore, authorities are coordinating with provincial administrations and security agencies to ensure adequate deployment ahead of the announced political activities.
The requested personnel are expected to supplement Islamabad’s existing security force and assist authorities in managing potential protests and maintaining law and order.
