CHITRAL: The PTI supporters in Chitral have protested against the arrest of PTI MPA Fatehul Mulk Ali Nasir. PTI MPA has been arrested in Islamabad ahead of the long march, scheduled for September 27 march.
Hundreds of PTI workers and residents demonstrated against the lawmaker’s detention. A rally led by Senator Falak Naz, PTI secretary Syed Farid Jan and other party leaders took place in Chitral city. The protesters marched towards the Chitral Press Club, where party leaders addressed a press conference. They demanded Nasir’s immediate release and criticised his arrest.
Protests Intensify as PTI Prepares for Islamabad March
Speakers said MNA Abdul Latif was already in custody in cases linked to the May 9, 2023 incidents. They said Nasir’s detention had further reduced the district’s elected representation in parliament and the provincial assembly.
Meanwhile, the protesters announced their intention to participate in the September 27 march to Islamabad. They said the demonstration would seek the release of PTI founder Imran Khan. Senator Falak Naz criticised the government’s actions and called for Nasir’s release. The local PTI leadership demanded Nasir’s immediate release.
The development comes as authorities and PTI remain at odds over the September 27 protest. The federal government has warned against disruptions to public movement and roads during the planned demonstration.
Meanwhile, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has said the party will follow the rule of law during the march.
The development follows reports of a broader crackdown, with PTI figures detained as authorities prepare security arrangements for the protest.
The tensions also coincide with detentions of other PTI figures in different parts of the country. PTI has continued preparations for the march.
