ISLAMABAD: The police officials have detailed lawmakers of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf ahead of the scheduled long march. PTI’s Islamabad march is starting from September 27.
Federal police have intensified action against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmakers ahead of the party’s planned long march towards Islamabad. Authorities prepared lists of PTI parliamentarians and have already detained five lawmakers. Sanaullah Masti Khel, Saifullah Niazi and Ghaus Muhammad were detained outside Parliament Lodges.
Meanwhile, authorities arrested MNA Dawar Khan and Hamad Jamal Hassan Khan from Mianwali Radio Pakistan Chowk.
PTI lawmakers face detention
PTI founder Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan also remains in detention in Lahore. Authorities shifted her to Kot Lakhpat Jail under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order ordinance. According to an order issued by the Lahore deputy commissioner, officials ordered her detention for 30 days.
The order described her presence among the public as a serious threat to public order and safety.
Meanwhile, authorities in Rawalpindi have stepped up preparations to manage possible protests by PTI and Jamaat-e-Islami.
Routes from KP face restrictions
Rawalpindi police have contacted the district administration to close 48 educational institutions during the protest period. Sources said authorities would use the institutions to accommodate police personnel arriving from different parts of Punjab. Around 15,000 additional police personnel are expected to stay at these institutions and perform security duties. Police personnel from various districts of Punjab are expected to reach Rawalpindi within 24 to 48 hours.
Furthermore, authorities have prepared a strategy to restrict protesters travelling from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa towards Islamabad. Officials plan to dig trenches along several routes leading to the federal capital. These locations include GT Road, 26 Number Chungi, Pirwadhai, IGP Road, Aswal Mor and Kati Pahari.
Authorities will also install barriers at several points to prevent protest caravans from entering Islamabad.
