ISLAMABAD: Punjab and Sindh are sending thousands of police officials for security during the PTI’s Islamabad march, scheduled for September 27.
Thousands of police officers and personnel from Punjab and Sindh are heading to Islamabad as the federal government strengthens security ahead of the PTI march.
Police sources said around 1,950 personnel from Sindh are expected to reach the capital on Tuesday night.
Meanwhile, Punjab will send 19,000 police officers and personnel to Islamabad over the next two days.
The federal government had initially requested 23,000 police personnel and officers from Punjab, according to police sources.
Authorities have also completed accommodation arrangements for personnel arriving from Punjab, Sindh and the Frontier Corps.
The security measures come ahead of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s planned march towards Islamabad on September 27.
The PTI has announced the protest to demand the release of its founder Imran Khan and what it calls constitutional supremacy.
Meanwhile, the Islamabad High Court has issued directions regarding the proposed march, including instructions against blocking public roads and facilities.
Six PTI lawmakers have also been detained in Islamabad amid preparations for the protest.
Police sources said authorities arrested MNA Adil Bazai, bringing the number of detained PTI lawmakers to six.
The detained lawmakers include Senator Saifullah Niazi and MNAs Sanaullah Masti Khel, Mian Ahsan Jamal, Dawar Kundi and Ghaus Muhammad.
Authorities have detained the lawmakers under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance and shifted them to Jhelum Jail, according to reports.
Meanwhile, authorities are welding containers together at various locations across Islamabad during overnight operations.
Officials have already positioned large numbers of containers at key entry and exit points and major roads. The arrangements aim to restrict movement and strengthen security during the PTI mobilisation on September 27.
