Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawyer Barrister Salman Safdar has met party founder Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, at Adiala Jail. He confirmed the meetings on Monday through a statement shared on social media.
Safdar said the meeting with Imran marked his first interaction with the former prime minister in seven months. Meanwhile, he had not met Bushra Bibi for approximately 11 months.
The lawyer said both meetings lasted around 40 minutes. However, he described the available time as insufficient for discussing all pending cases and legal matters.
Lawyer Receives Updates on Health and Living Conditions
Safdar said Imran and Bushra briefed him about their health and living conditions inside the prison. They also provided fresh instructions concerning several legal matters and ongoing cases.
The meetings come amid continued concerns over restricted access to the incarcerated couple. Family members, lawyers and party associates have faced difficulties securing regular meetings in recent months.
The Islamabad High Court has previously allowed Imran meetings twice weekly. These meetings are scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursdays with family members, lawyers and other associates.
Imran and Bushra Remain Imprisoned at Adiala Jail
Imran has remained incarcerated since August 5, 2023, following his conviction in the Toshakhana case. Bushra Bibi was arrested on January 17, 2025, in a separate case involving the couple.
Both are also serving sentences in the £190 million Al-Qadir Trust corruption case. They received another conviction in a Toshakhana case in December 2025.
Additionally, Imran faces pending trials linked to the May 9, 2023 riots. His legal team continues pursuing challenges and other proceedings before the courts.
Meanwhile, his sisters and opposition leaders have repeatedly demanded access to him. They previously organised sit-ins outside Adiala Jail to protest restrictions on meetings.
However, authorities detained several participants in late September under the Punjab Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance. The latest meetings provide the lawyer an opportunity to receive updated instructions from both prisoners.
