Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has reportedly decided to postpone its planned Islamabad long march from September 27 to October 5.
Party sources said the decision emerged during a meeting of the PTI political committee in Peshawar on Friday. However, a formal announcement is expected after consultations with key opposition leaders.
The reported change comes as preparations continue for the party’s planned protest in the federal capital. Recent reporting has indicated that PTI leadership was considering a delay, although the party’s position remained subject to further consultation.
PTI Considers New Date for Islamabad March
The long march was originally scheduled for September 27. According to party sources, PTI’s political committee has now decided to move the date to October 5.
The sources said the decision will be formally announced after Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas are taken into confidence.
The two leaders have been involved in consultations surrounding the opposition’s strategy for the planned march. Earlier discussions also focused on coordinating the timing of the march with opposition leaders.
Why Is PTI Planning the March?
PTI is preparing for a major protest and march towards Islamabad. The party has demanded the release of its incarcerated founder, Imran Khan.
It has also called for what it describes as the restoration of constitutional supremacy.
The planned march has prompted increased security preparations in Islamabad and parts of Punjab. The federal government has authorised the deployment of Rangers in Islamabad and several Punjab districts through October 5.
Meanwhile, major routes around the capital have faced security measures ahead of the originally scheduled September 27 protest.
Formal Announcement Still Awaited
For now, the reported October 5 date remains subject to the party’s formal announcement.
PTI sources said consultations with Achakzai and Raja Nasir Abbas must take place before the decision is officially announced.
Therefore, the next announcement from the party is expected to clarify whether the Islamabad long march will formally move from September 27 to October 5.
