ISLAMABAD: A PTI leader hinted that the party could postpone its September 27 protest if the federal government accepts three key demands.
Advocate Naeem Haider Panjutha said that the protest could be delayed if the government provides assurances on elections, political prisoners and investigations.
He said the first demand involves holding free, fair and transparent elections within six to eight months.
The PTI also wants the release of all political prisoners, including party founder Imran Khan, through courts and due legal process.
Additionally, the party has demanded judicial inquiries into the May 9 and November 26 crackdowns against its supporters.
Panjutha said the march could be postponed if the government fulfils all three demands. However, he warned that the party would not compromise if authorities rejected them.
PTI spokesperson Sheikh Waqas Akram, meanwhile, denied that any new proposal was under discussion within the party.
He said Imran Khan alone could decide whether to postpone the march.
Akram added that the PTI had previously presented similar demands, but the government had not responded positively.
Therefore, he said the long march would proceed unless the government made a concrete offer.
Meanwhile, PTI leaders met opposition representatives in the Senate to discuss preparations for the September 27 protest.
Separately, the federal government approved Rangers deployment in Islamabad and several Punjab districts from September 20 to October 5.
