US President Donald Trump faced repeated interruptions from protesters during a campaign-style rally in San Antonio, Texas, on Wednesday. Several demonstrators disrupted his speech as he campaigned for Republican Senate candidate Ken Paxton ahead of November’s midterm elections.
At least nine protesters were removed from the venue, while media reports estimated that around a dozen people disrupted the event. The interruptions began shortly after Trump started speaking and continued throughout his roughly two-hour address.
Protesters Removed as Crowd Chants
Security personnel and police escorted several protesters from Freeman Coliseum as Trump supporters booed them. The crowd repeatedly responded with “USA” chants, while some protesters faced confrontations with rally attendees during their removal.
Trump mocked several demonstrators and accused them of receiving payments to disrupt his rallies. However, he did not provide evidence for his claim that the protesters were paid by his political opponents.
One demonstrator appeared to move closer to the stage before security removed him. Trump then briefly stepped away from the microphone before resuming his speech and continuing his attacks on the protesters.
Trump Pushes Support for Ken Paxton
Despite the disruptions, Trump continued his effort to strengthen Republican support in Texas. He urged voters to back Paxton, who faces Democratic candidate James Talarico in a closely watched Senate race.
Trump also discussed fuel prices, the Iran war and his domestic agenda during the rally. Meanwhile, the event highlighted growing political tensions in Texas as Republicans work to maintain control ahead of the midterm elections.
The protests added to the challenges surrounding Trump’s campaign appearance and underscored the increasingly competitive political environment in the traditionally Republican state.
