The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced its plans to hold a public rally in Islamabad on March 30. The party intends to denounce what it claims to be extensive rigging during the February 8 general elections, manipulation of post-election results, and perceived violations of the Constitution.
The party, founded by Imran Khan, contends that the ruling government tampered with election outcomes recorded in Form 47s to favor the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
Accusing the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif-led regime of securing power through the illicit appropriation of PTI’s 180 parliamentary seats, KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur echoed sentiments of electoral malpractice.
Following a core committee meeting, PTI issued a declaration reaffirming its commitment to observe Pakistan Day with patriotic fervor. Despite seeking authorization from the Islamabad Deputy Commissioner’s Office for a peaceful rally, PTI resorted to legal recourse by approaching the Islamabad High Court due to administrative silence.
On March 25, the party plans to conduct a press briefing regarding the perceived adverse effects of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) package on the populace and economy. With Pakistan’s $3 billion IMF standby arrangement expiring on April 11, discussions for an Extended Fund Facility (EFF) are slated for Washington next month, aimed at mitigating a looming economic crisis.
Additionally, PTI announced plans for a public rally in Karachi on April 21 and reiterated its demand for a comprehensive probe into alleged election irregularities.
The core committee meeting also addressed various issues, including Pakistan’s former ambassador Asad Majeed’s response to United States Assistant Secretary of State Donald Lu’s statement, Senate elections, and other pressing matters of national significance.
