ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary General Salman Akram Raja has firmly rejected the notion of party founder Imran Khan offering an apology, stating that there is “no question” of him apologizing to anyone.
Speaking to the media outside the Islamabad High Court, Raja ruled out any immediate talks with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).
However, he confirmed ongoing discussions for a “grand opposition alliance” with various political groups, including Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) and parties from Sindh.
His remarks follow a statement by PML-N senior leader Rana Sanaullah, referencing the ISPR director general’s recent comment that PTI must offer a sincere apology for the May 9 events if it wishes to move forward politically.
“Any concession is contingent on an apology for the May 9 incidents,” Sanaullah emphasized during an appearance on Samaa TV’s talk show Nadeem Malik Live.
PTI’s Stand on Imran Khan’s Jail Visits
Addressing the issue of meetings with Imran Khan, Raja confirmed that an agreement had been reached on his visitation rights. He clarified that while PTI leaders visiting Khan in jail would not be allowed to make political statements upon leaving, banning political discussions within the party itself was unjustified.
“We have accepted the condition that those meeting him will not discuss political matters outside. However, preventing political discourse within PTI is unfair,” he stated, adding that authorities had warned media statements by PTI members could create a law and order situation.
“No one can be silenced. Parliament members have the right to express their views wherever necessary. Only relatives have been barred from making statements,” he added.
PTI Condemns Government’s Actions on March 23
Raja also criticized the government’s actions on Pakistan Day, accusing authorities of harassing PTI members and disrupting celebrations in Lahore.
“March 23 is a day of joy, yet instead of allowing us to celebrate, police raided homes and even prevented the cutting of a cake. This is not just a constitutional violation but also an affront to basic decency,” he remarked.
