PCB Declares Three-Year Boycott of India After Champions Trophy Withdrawal

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced that it will not engage in any bilateral cricket series with India for the next three years in response to India’s decision to withdraw from the Champions Trophy in Pakistan. This was confirmed by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi’s advisor, Aamer Mir, during a press conference on Wednesday.

Addressing the ongoing cricketing dispute between the two nations, Mir asserted that the PCB remains financially stable despite India’s stance.

“All decisions regarding the Champions Trophy were made by the ICC,” he said. “India’s attempt to financially undermine Pakistan will ultimately result in greater financial losses for India itself.”

Mir highlighted that the PCB is currently the third wealthiest cricket board in the world, underscoring its financial resilience despite regional tensions. He also noted that previous Champions Trophy events have been conducted smoothly without any disruptions.

Under Chairman Mohsin Naqvi’s leadership, the PCB has strengthened its financial standing. As an example, Mir pointed out that the board contributed 4 billion rupees in taxes to the national treasury.

PCB official Javed Murtaza, who was also present at the press conference, elaborated on the financial aspects of the Champions Trophy. He clarified that while some matches are scheduled to take place in Dubai, Pakistan will still retain the official hosting rights.

“The matches in Dubai remain under Pakistan’s official hosting umbrella, and the PCB will receive ticket revenue from these games,” Murtaza explained.

He further stated that while the ICC is covering operational expenses for the tournament, the PCB expects to generate approximately 3 billion rupees in profit through hosting fees and ticket sales.

Despite India’s withdrawal, PCB officials assured that the Champions Trophy remains financially viable for Pakistan, with the ICC expected to contribute around 3 billion rupees in profit-sharing.

This development adds another layer to the ongoing cricket tensions between Pakistan and India, where sporting decisions continue to be shaped by broader geopolitical factors.
