LAHORE: In a move to stabilize the market and control flour prices across the province, the Punjab government has approved the release of additional wheat from its reserves.
A notification from the Price Control and Commodities Management Department, issued on Tuesday, stated that the release price for government wheat has been set at Rs 2,900 per maund.
The decision aims to ensure a sufficient supply of wheat and prevent artificial shortages that could drive up prices.
Previously, the Punjab cabinet had approved the release of 1.2 million metric tons of wheat, which has already been sold by the Food Department. In response to current market conditions, the government has now decided to release further stocks from its warehouses.
Officials are optimistic that this move will help stabilize wheat and flour prices, alleviating inflationary pressures on consumers. The government has also directed authorities to closely monitor the market and take strong action against hoarding or price manipulation.
