Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has formally announced an alliance with the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) and Majlis-e-Wahdatul Muslimeen (MWM). Barrister Gohar, flanked by MWM chief Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, Sunni Ittehad Council’s head Sahibzada Hamid Raza, and Omar Ayub Khan, made the announcement.
Barrister Gohar stated that independent candidates backed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in the central, Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) regions will join the Sunni Ittehad Council. This decision comes after extensive consultations between PTI, SIC, and MWM.
The PTI candidates are set to submit documents to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) today, formally indicating their association with the Sunni Ittehad Council.
Reiterating the PTI’s stance on alleged rigging in the general elections, Barrister Gohar claimed that his party secured 170 to 180 seats in the National Assembly, but the results were manipulated.
Omar Ayub Khan explained that the decision to join the Sunni Ittehad Council was driven by the aim to secure reserved seats, as these are typically allotted to political parties.
In his remarks, Ayub commented on the revelations by the former Rawalpindi commissioner, Liaquat Chatha, alleging that rigging was orchestrated to prevent the PTI from winning the elections. He also accused the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan of ‘stealing’ PTI seats in Karachi and Hyderabad during the 2024 elections.
