Following the issuance of the election schedule for the general polls in 2024, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has announced that it will launch its election campaign on December 27 with a ‘no hate’ policy.
PPP leader Sharjeel Memon stated that the party plans to officially kick off its election campaign with a mass gathering in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh on December 27, the day PPP leader and former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto was assassinated.
During a press conference, Sharjeel Memon mentioned that the party’s board meeting, chaired by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, reviewed the country’s political situation after the announcement of the election schedule.
Memon emphasized that the PPP advocates for timely elections and criticized other political parties for seemingly avoiding polls.
He highlighted Bilawal Bhutto’s emphasis on a positive campaign, stating that the PPP aims to run its campaign on positivity, rejecting negativity and promoting an end to hate policies.
Memon expressed regret that some political leaders still seek revenge, while others who wanted to take action against their rivals are in jail.
Senator Sherry Rehman, taking part in the press conference, demanded a level playing field for the party and emphasized the need for elections to be conducted on the designated date without any delay.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) recently issued the election schedule for the upcoming general polls on February 8, 2024, following a Supreme Court order.
The public notice for nominations is set to be issued on December 19, with the dates for filing nominations from December 20 to 22. The last date for scrutiny of nomination papers is scheduled for December 24 to 30.
