Opposition Alliance
ISLAMABAD: The Tehreek-e-Tahafuz-e-Ayeen-e-Pakistan, a coalition of opposition parties, has formally requested permission from the Islamabad administration to organize a public gathering in the capital city.
Led by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Amir Mughal and the alliance’s focal person Akhunzada Yousafzai, the alliance approached the Islamabad administration seeking authorization to hold the event on June 8th at F-9 Park.
The Tehreek-e-Tahafuz-e-Ayeen-e-Pakistan emphasized that the Islamabad High Court (IHC) had previously granted permission for the gathering.
They clarified that the event, initially planned for March, had been rescheduled due to the final days of Ramadan.
Earlier, the IHC had ruled in favor of a petition filed by the PTI, seeking permission to hold a public gathering in Islamabad. Chief Justice of the IHC, Justice Aamer Farooq, presided over the hearing of the plea.
The petition, filed by PTI District President Aamir Mughal through his counsel and PTI leader Sher Afzal Marwat, named the Secretary of Interior, Chief Commissioner Islamabad, and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad as respondents. Additionally, the PTI urged the court to instruct authorities to refrain from using force against attendees of the public meeting.
This move by the opposition alliance signifies their intent to exercise their democratic right to assemble and express their views.
The request for permission underscores the ongoing political dynamics in Pakistan and the role of opposition parties in advocating for their agenda.
As the legal proceedings unfold, the outcome of the petition will shape the landscape of political activism in Islamabad.
