ISLAMABAD: Seeking the intervention of the Supreme Court to address the escalating crisis, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Gohar Ali Khan emphasized on Sunday that parliamentary members of his party were being coerced into defecting.
During a media address, Gohar strongly condemned what he described as the “abduction” of PTI officials and their family members, including MNA Sahibzada Ameer Sultan, PTI media wing member Rizwan Malik, Mian Fayyaz Ahmad Chajra’s son Mian Tajamal Hussain, brother Mian Imtiaz Hussain, and several social media activists.
Accompanied by PTI Information Secretary Raoof Hasan, MNAs Atif Khan, and Sheikh Waqas, Gohar urged the Supreme Court to uphold its historic judgment concerning reserved seats and take immediate action against the harassment and abduction of PTI parliamentary members and their relatives.
The PTI chairman criticized the government for the re-arrest of PTI supporter Sanam Javed and the spouse of the party’s founder, Bushra Bibi, demanding their prompt release along with other incarcerated PTI members. He alleged that Bushra Bibi’s arrest in the Toshakhana case was aimed at undermining former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
In a significant development, Gohar informed the media that 25 independent MNAs had submitted affidavits to join PTI, with more expected to follow by Monday.
He urged the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to promptly publish the candidate lists and notify reserved seats.
Highlighting PTI’s resilience amid challenges, Gohar underscored the party’s unity and claimed it retained 70% public support due to Imran Khan’s longstanding political struggle spanning 27 years.
Gohar pressed the Supreme Court to expedite PTI’s petition regarding the abductions and secure the release of those kidnapped.
Atif Khan stressed the necessity for governance in accordance with the law and Constitution, warning against resorting to coercion and harassment tactics that could escalate societal unrest.
Echoing similar sentiments, Sheikh Waqas alleged a campaign of terror since May 9 aimed at inducing defections, including the abduction of minors.
Raoof Hasan reiterated PTI’s demand to hold the Chief Election Commissioner accountable under Article 6 for allegedly overseeing fraudulent elections, which he described as the country’s most deceitful in history.
