ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has completed the printing of ballot papers for all constituencies across the country in preparation for the upcoming 2024 elections.

During a comprehensive briefing held in Islamabad regarding the intricate printing process, ECP officials provided insights into the completion of the delivery of ballot papers for Balochistan constituencies. Special attention was given to addressing security concerns and overcoming challenging weather conditions through the utilization of air transport.

Commencing on January 14, the printing process was successfully concluded by February 2. Following a directive from the Supreme Court, ballot papers for 11 National Assembly and 5 Provincial Assembly constituencies were subject to a reprinting process, and the original ones will be subsequently destroyed in accordance with the court’s order.

ECP officials revealed that a staggering total of 260 million ballot papers were printed for the 2024 elections. This figure signifies a noteworthy 54.74% increase in the number of candidates compared to the 2018 elections. Despite encountering a substantial 195% surge in the demand for special paper, the ECP effectively managed the requirement, successfully reducing it from 2400 tonnes to 2177 tonnes.

The detailed breakdown of the printed ballot papers includes 5% single column, 50% double column, 30% 3 columns, 11.15% 4 columns, and 2.4% 5 column formats. These meticulous preparations aim to ensure the smooth functioning of the upcoming polls scheduled for February 8.

As political parties and independent candidates actively engage in campaigning, the election campaign is set to conclude on February 6 at midnight. The completion of the ballot printing process marks a crucial step towards facilitating a fair and transparent electoral process in Pakistan.
