Pakistan Armed Forces Designated as Quick Reaction Force for Elections 2024

In preparation for the general elections in 2024, the Pakistan Armed Forces, acting under Article 245 of the Constitution, will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and secure conduct of the electoral process. The Armed Forces will specifically serve as the Quick Reaction Force and operate in the third tier within their respective areas.

The primary responsibility for maintaining law and order during the elections lies with the police, while the civil armed forces, including Rangers and Frontier Corps (FC), will be responsible for security in the second tier. The deployment of Pakistan Army personnel in the third tier aims to address any potential security challenges that may arise in general polling areas.

The collaboration between the Civil Armed Forces and Pakistan Army personnel is designed to provide a secure environment for polling staff, including District Returning Officers (DROs), Returning Officers (ROs), and Presiding Officers to perform their duties without hindrance. The Civil Armed Forces will take on the responsibility of securing the printing press during the ballot paper printing process.

Stringent security measures will be implemented, including a ban on displaying arms on the polling day. The distribution and transfer of electoral materials will be closely guarded, and security responsibilities are categorized into three tiers: Tier One handled by the police, Tier Two managed by the Civil Armed Forces, and Tier Three overseen by the Pakistan Army.

To ensure an impartial electoral process, the Civil Armed Forces and the Pakistan Army are prohibited from interfering with the work of election officials at polling stations. Their role is to maintain a peaceful environment, conduct searches before entry to polling station premises, and respond promptly to any irregularities or untoward incidents, informing the relevant authorities for legal action.

While the Armed Forces will not impede eligible voters from entering polling stations, they will take action against those involved in creating disruptions or engaging in anti-state activities. These measures aim to foster a secure and transparent electoral environment for the upcoming general elections.
