Iftikhar Durrani
ISLAMABAD: Police arrested another leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Iftikhar Durrani early morning on Thursday.
The police apprehended Durrani from his residence in Islamabad. After the arrest, Police shifted Iftikhar Durrani to an undisclosed location.
Meanwhile, PTI issued a statement stating that their core member was “kidnapped” from Islamabad. PTI said they are gathering details about the incident.
It is important to note that PTI members and leaders have faced arrests and re-arrests since the May 9 riots. On May 9, PTI workers attacked military and public installations in response to the arrest of Imran Khan.
Several cases have been registered against the top leadership, accusing them of involvement and incitement against the military leadership.
Following the events of May 9, prominent figures such as Parvez Khattak, Imran Ismail, Fawad Chaudhry, and Shireen Mazari have resigned from PTI, with some even leaving politics altogether.
PTI chairman Imran Khan fears his disqualification
Meanwhile, PTI chairman Imran Khan anticipates his disqualification in the Toshakhana case. He believed this after a district and sessions court declared four witnesses in the case as irrelevant.
However, Khan has approached the high court against the decision.
In a video statement Khan stated, “I am consistently being deprived of the right to a fair trial in the Toshakhana case, according to the Constitution. I am not even allowed to present witnesses in my defense.”
The district and sessions court called for final arguments from the parties on Thursday (today) regarding the gift case.
The court has asserted that it will reserve the decision if the parties fail to present their arguments.
Meanwhile, the District and Sessions Court in Islamabad rejected PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s witnesses in the Toshakhana case.
The court observed that the ex-premier had not demonstrated their “relevance” in the ongoing criminal proceedings against him. The ECP had filed a complaint against Imran for concealing details of Toshakhana gifts. Additional District and Sessions Judge Humayun Dilawar heard the case on Wednesday.
