On Tuesday, 82 candidates supported by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) joined the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC). Affidavits from these 82 Members of the National Assembly (MNAs) were submitted to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
Additionally, nine PTI-backed candidates from the Sindh Assembly submitted party certificates to the ECP. The SIC has directed the submission of a priority list for reserved seats at the earliest.
In a separate development, PTI leader Barrister Gohar Ali Khan called for the resignation of ECP Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja amid the ongoing political complexities.
Gohar Ali Khan emphasized the need for transparent accountability regarding alleged election irregularities. He stated that the ECP CEC has become a source of controversy and accused the electoral watchdog of failing to fulfill its election duties.
Gohar Ali Khan further expressed the demand for organizing Form 47 in alignment with Form 45, highlighting the importance of transparency in electoral processes. Regarding negotiations with the Sunni Ittehad Council, he mentioned reaching an agreement and submitting a list of 50 MNAs to the ECP.
Gohar Ali Khan asserted that the PTI had secured victory in 180 National Assembly seats. Additionally, he called for the protection of Liaquat Chatta, a former commissioner, and his family.
