ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Tuesday increased petrol and high-speed diesel prices by Rs4.10 and Rs6.41 per litre, respectively, for September 16.
According to a Petroleum Division notification, petrol will cost Rs384.34 per litre, while diesel will sell for Rs415.83 from Wednesday.
The increase follows another hike announced a day earlier, when petrol rose Rs4.42 and diesel increased Rs6.10 per litre.
Daily Fuel Pricing Continues
The government introduced daily petroleum price reviews in July, replacing the weekly mechanism amid volatile oil markets.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister’s Fuel Relief Scheme will expand nationwide at midnight on September 16.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced Rs100 per litre petrol relief for lower-income consumers.
Relief Scheme Covers Millions
The scheme will cover motorcycles, three-wheelers and cars with engines up to 800cc, with an estimated 11.8 million beneficiaries.
Around 10 million motorcycle users and 800,000 three-wheeler users will receive relief on 20 litres, with a maximum benefit of Rs2,000.
Furthermore, one million small-car users will receive relief on 30 litres monthly, providing up to Rs3,000 per beneficiary.
The government estimates the scheme will cost Rs24.6 billion monthly.
Fuel Prices Rise Sharply
Petrol prices increased by Rs72 per litre, or 24%, between July 1 and September 11, while diesel prices rose Rs87, or 28%.
Officials said Pakistan’s dependence on imported products exposes prices to international markets.
