Security measures have intensified in Peshawar, with several government facilities evacuated or restricted amid heightened security concerns.
The Civil Secretariat has been evacuated with immediate effect, while Police Lines Peshawar has also restricted entry.
Meanwhile, traffic restrictions on the Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway have created difficulties for travellers. The restrictions come ahead of September 27, when PTI’s plans remain unclear.
Civil Secretariat Evacuated in Peshawar
The Civil Secretariat in Peshawar was evacuated with immediate effect due to security concerns. The mosque located inside the secretariat has also been closed as a precautionary measure.
Additionally, the Directorate of Excise and Taxation has been evacuated as part of the security measures. Authorities have also cleared the former FATA Secretariat building.
Meanwhile, entry into Police Lines Peshawar has been restricted because of the prevailing security concerns.
Swabi Motorway Interchange Closed
The Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway has also faced restrictions around the Anbar Interchange in Swabi.
According to the latest National Highways and Motorway Police travel advisory, the M-1 section between Swabi and the Islamabad Toll Plaza remains closed.
Southbound traffic has been diverted from the Swabi Interchange because of the law-and-order situation.
The closure has caused difficulties for travellers using the route towards Islamabad.
Furthermore, petrol pumps and restaurants at the Anbar Interchange rest area have also been shut.
Travellers heading towards Islamabad have consequently been advised to use alternative routes.
PTI September 27 Plan Remains Unclear
The restrictions have come as uncertainty remains over PTI’s planned activity for September 27.
It is still unclear whether the party will hold a rally or sit-in at the Swabi Interchange.
Another possibility mentioned in the report is that supporters could proceed towards Islamabad.
However, the decision on whether PTI supporters will remain at the interchange or advance towards the capital has not been clarified.
The current motorway restrictions have already affected movement between Swabi and Islamabad. Therefore, travellers using the route face additional disruption while the security measures remain in place.
For now, the authorities continue to cite security and law-and-order concerns behind the motorway restrictions, while the exact PTI plan for September 27 remains uncertain.
