Pakistan has secured another Qatari LNG cargo after diplomatic engagement involving Iranian officials, with the shipment already crossing the Strait of Hormuz.
Officials said the cargo is expected to reach Port Qasim within days, marking Pakistan’s second Qatari LNG shipment this month.
Second Qatari LNG Cargo Reaches Pakistan
A Petroleum Division official confirmed that the latest shipment successfully passed through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
Pakistan received its first Qatari LNG cargo of September on September 10. The Al Marrouna carried around 81,936 metric tonnes of LNG from Qatar’s Ras Laffan terminal.
The latest cargo was secured at a price equivalent to 13.37% of Brent, according to officials.
The additional supply is expected to provide temporary support to the power sector, where some areas are facing six to 12 hours of load shedding.
Pakistan Faces Gas Supply Constraints
Pakistan continues to closely monitor gas availability across its transmission network.
Data for September 21 showed line-pack at 4,792 MMcf, while the power sector was consuming around 208 MMcf/d of gas.
Fertiliser-sector consumption remained steady at 89 MMcf/d. Meanwhile, domestic gas production has faced disruptions at several fields. Gas supplies from the Qadirpur field to Liberty Power have remained suspended since September 17 over non-payment.
Gas input from MEL’s GTH plant also fell by 37 MMcf/d because of its annual turnaround.
Several Gas Fields Report Disruptions
The Nashpa plant reported an 83 MMcf/d reduction following an issue at the facility. Its current gas input stands at 83 MMcf/d.
Similarly, gas input from MOL’s CPF declined by 158 MMcf/d because of an operational problem. Current input from the facility stands at 154 MMcf/d.
Despite these disruptions, officials said there is currently no forced gas curtailment from any source on the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited network.
The latest Qatari cargo is therefore expected to provide some temporary relief as Pakistan manages tight gas supplies and ongoing pressure on the power sector.
