The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) opened the new business week with a strong rally on Monday. Investor confidence improved after the United States and Iran paused military attacks, easing concerns over a wider regional conflict.
As a result, buying activity strengthened across major sectors, pushing the benchmark index sharply higher during early trading.
KSE-100 Index Jumps More Than 5,200 Points
The benchmark KSE-100 Index climbed to 176,235.22 points during the opening session.
The index gained 5,214.02 points, marking an increase of 2.96 percent from the previous close.
The strong opening reflected renewed investor optimism after recent geopolitical developments reduced uncertainty in global financial markets.
US-Iran Pause Boosts Market Confidence
The market rally followed reports that the United States and Iran had paused attacks against each other.
The development raised hopes that diplomatic efforts could prevent further escalation in the Middle East. Consequently, investors returned to the market with renewed confidence.
Lower geopolitical tensions also reduced concerns about potential disruptions to global energy supplies. Therefore, sentiment improved across Pakistan’s equity market.
Key Sectors Lead the Rally
Strong buying interest emerged in several heavyweight sectors.
Automobile assemblers attracted investors early in the session. Likewise, cement companies also traded higher.
Commercial banks recorded gains as investor confidence strengthened. Meanwhile, oil and gas exploration companies, oil marketing companies and power generation firms also remained among the top performers.
Several index-heavy stocks traded in positive territory. These included OGDC, PPL, POL, MARI, PSO, HUBCO, ARL, HBL, MCB and MEBL.
The broad-based gains indicated widespread buying rather than strength in only a few sectors.
Investors Await State Bank’s Monetary Policy Decision
Another factor supporting market sentiment was the scheduled meeting of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).
The central bank is expected to announce its latest monetary policy following the meeting of its Monetary Policy Committee (MPC).
Market participants widely expect the committee to leave the policy rate unchanged for the next 50 days.
As a result, investors remained optimistic while awaiting the central bank’s decision.
Last Week’s Losses Followed Middle East Tensions
The sharp rally comes after a difficult week for the Pakistan Stock Exchange.
Previously, the market remained under pressure due to escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
Investor sentiment weakened after the Houthis announced a blockade in the Red Sea. Consequently, concerns over global oil supplies pushed Brent crude oil prices above US$100 per barrel for the first time in nearly two months.
The increase in oil prices triggered broad-based selling across the stock market.
During the previous week, the KSE-100 Index declined 2.7 percent on a week-on-week basis.
Overall, the benchmark index lost 4,781.60 points before closing at 171,021.20 points.
Improved Global Sentiment Lifts the PSX
Monday’s strong recovery highlights how closely Pakistan’s stock market responds to international developments.
The easing of US-Iran tensions encouraged investors to return to equities after several sessions of uncertainty.
Meanwhile, attention has shifted to the State Bank’s monetary policy announcement, which could influence market direction in the coming days.
For now, improving geopolitical sentiment and expectations of policy stability have provided a strong boost to the Pakistan Stock Exchange, helping the market recover a significant portion of last week’s losses.
